Superficial form of cellulitis localised to dermis and lymphatic system
Aetiology
Causative organism: Strep. pyrogenes
Clinical presentation
Most commonly affects the face and is a spreading well demarcated, erythematous plaque
Can have 'butterfly' distribution over the cheeks and the bridge of the nose
If face affected, this source of infection is usually the nasopharynx (possibly recent nasopharyngeal infection)
Also commonly affects the lower limbs
Associated symptoms: fever and systemic upset

Cultures
from possible portals of entry may be indicated in some circumstances e.g. if patient is very unwell
Management
Flucloxacillin:
oral, IV if person is unable to take oral or is severely unwell
