Aetiology
There are concerns it has the potential to become a 'superbug' due to high levels of macrolide resistance
Clinical features
The presentation is very similar to chlamydia, and patients may be infected with both organisms
Urethritis is a key feature
Investigations
NAAT:
First urine sample in the morning for men
Vaginal swabs (can be self-taken) for women
Management
Doxycycline 100 mg BD for seven days; or
Azithromycin 1 g as a single dose, then 500 mg daily for two more days
