Benign epidermal tumour - also called basal cell papillomas
Aetiology
Benign proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes
Very common in ageing skin
Eruptive appearance of many lesions may indicate internal malignancy - Leser-Trelat sign
Most commonly gastric or colorectal adenocarcinoma
Clinical features
Very well demarcated, raised, usually brown coloured lesion
Common on face and trunk
Stuck on appearance - greasy hyperkeratotic surface
Typical surface appearance - small cysts/depressions/warty
Management
Reassurance, most need no treatment
If patient would like removal - cryotherapy, curettage
