Predominantly inspiratory wheeze due to large airway obstruction
Aetiology
In children - most commonly infections (croup, epiglottitis), or a foreign body obstructing airway
The most common location for a foreign body in the airway is the right bronchial tree, particularly the right lower-lobe and intermediate bronchi, due to the vertical orientation of the right main bronchus
In adults - most commonly due to tumours
Other causes include anaphylaxis and trauma
Investigations
Laryngoscopy (be careful if suspected acute epiglottitis)
